BEDFORD – Bedford North Lawrence wrapped up the regular season and learned its postseason fate on the same day. Momentum will be an issue after the Stars dropped a 4-1 decision to Edgewood on Monday afternoon.

The Mustangs swept the singles as BNL (7-14) suffered its third straight loss. The Stars will look to bounce back when they meet Trinity Lutheran in the first round of the IHSAA sectional at Seymour.

BNL’s lone win came at No.2 doubles, as Gavin Baker and Jackson Corey shook off a first-set setback to conquer Dannie Chandler and Jailyn Luedemann 4-6, 6-2, 10-8 (in the super tiebreaker).

“I was really happy to see our 2 doubles hanging in and competing hard even after dropping the first set,” BNL coach Chris Kurtz said. “They’ve become one of the more reliable positions for us here late in the season.”

Edgewood’s Andrew Paul pushed past Jayden Kemp 6-2, 6-2 at No.1 singles, Mitch Deckard dropped Orion Hill 6-3, 6-4 at No.2, and Carter Cheaney stopped Isaac Bridges 6-1, 6-1 at No.3.

BNL’s Jackson Corey hits a backhand at the net.

At No.1 doubles, Edgewood’s Quinn Norris and Dave Weisner handled Drew Stephenson and Neal Patel 6-1, 6-1.

BNL will face Trinity Lutheran on Wednesday in the first round of the sectional. That winner will advance to face Brownstown in the semifinal. Seymour will clash with Jennings County in the other bracket.
