Mitchell man attempts to evade police, drug arrest made

MITCHELL – A Mitchell man was arrested on Thursday, September 14 after a Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputy spotted his vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed blow through a stop sign at North 8th Street and Hancock Avenue in Mitchell.

The officer alerted officers to be on the lookout for the vehicle. The officer spotted the 2013 Dodge Dart making a quick turn onto 9th Street.

The driver continued traveling north on 9th Street and turned into a residential area. The officer then saw two people exit the vehicle. The officer ordered the driver 36-year-old Bryan Roberts and his female passenger to the ground and both were placed in handcuffs. A third male also fled the vehicle and was standing on the porch at 1336 North 9th Street. The home of Amanda Geary.

Roberts denied fleeing from the officer and said that was not his intention. But then finally admitted he was evading the officer.

Officers asked Geary to search the area to see if the male had discarded anything illegal. During a search of the porch, a glass smoking pipe with meth residue was located. In the laundry room, officers found a smoking device containing marijuana. In Robert’s bedroom police found a scale, a cut straw glass smoking device with meth residue. In the garage, police found two more smoking devices and two baggies containing meth residue. Police seized .59 grams of meth.

Roberts admitted all the items were his and he was detained on charges of resisting law enforcement using a vehicle, possession of meth, and drug paraphernalia. Everyone else was released from the scene.
