Capitol police arrest two men for breaking into cars

INDIANAPOLIS – Two Indianapolis men were arrested Thursday after Indiana State Police Capitol Police Officers responded to a call of suspicious activity. September 14, 2023, at 12:35 p.m. officers responded to the Washington Street Parking Garage, 401 W. Washington Street, after receiving a call about two men looking into vehicles. The caller was able to give a detailed description of the men. Two officers located the men inside the parking garage. A subsequent investigation led to the arrest of both individuals. 

According to investigators, 19 year old Malachi Allen and 19 year old Jeremiah Johnson were allegedly in possession of several stolen items, including a stolen handgun, bank cards with other names on them and cash. At least one vehicle was later located that had been broken into by Allen and Johnson.

Both men were transported to the Indiana State Police Post for further investigation and then transported to the Marion County Jail and incarcerated for the following preliminary charges:

  • Unauthorized Entry of a Motor Vehicle (B Misdemeanor)
  • Theft of a Firearm (Level 5 Felony)
  • Criminal Mischief Under $750 in Damage (B Misdemeanor)
  • Possession of Stolen Property (A Misdemeanor)
  • Possession of Stolen Property (Level 5 Felony)

The Indiana State Capitol Police would like to encourage the community to call 911 to report suspicious activity. A 911 call, along with video surveillance, played a vital role in this investigation. 

The charges listed are merely accusations and were used as probable cause to make an arrest. Formal criminal charges will be determine by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office upon review of the case. All suspects are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.
