Police respond to playground after report of rowdy teens drinking

BEDFORD – On Wednesday Bedford Police officers detained seven male juveniles on alcohol-related charges after they responded to Stalker Apartments on 8th Street after reports of multiple juveniles being noisy, boxing, and drinking on the playground.

Officers arrived at the scene at 6:45 p.m. and found several teens next to the building attempting to conceal something. Those items were empty alcohol bottles.

All but one male juvenile submitted to preliminary breath tests and tested positive for drinking.

Six of the teens were charged with illegal consumption. Their ages range from 14 to 17 years old.

One 15-year-old male was charged with illegal possession of an alcoholic beverage after he refused to submit to a breath test but police say he smelled of alcohol.

A 15-year-old male was also charged with resisting arrest by force after attempting to pull away from an officer while being handcuffed.

All the juveniles were transported to the Bedford Police Department and their parents or guardians were contacted. Lawrence County Juvenile probation was contacted and the teens were released to the parents after signing promises to appear in court on September 27th at 9 a.m.
