Stars return to close out win over Brown County

BNL’s Gavin Baker teamed with Braxton Fugate to win at No.2 doubles.

NASHVILLE – Bedford North Lawrence’s return trip to Brown County was worth the mileage as the Stars completed a 5-0 victory over the Eagles during boys high school tennis action on Wednesday.

The match was originally started on Sept. 5 but was suspended by inclement weather. BNL (6-10) finished what it started, winning two tiebreakers in singles to finish off the sweep.

“We got off to nice start to this match last week before lightning cut the night short,” BNL coach Chris Kurtz said. “It was a good start again tonight from everyone, and guys closed it out fairly quickly while avoiding third sets, which was much needed after some really long matches so far this week.”

Jayden Kemp topped the singles lineup with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-4 in the tiebreaker) win over Jack Sichting at No.1. Orion Hill conquered Owen East 6-2, 6-2 at No.2, and Isaac Bridges bounced past Brandon Saechao 6-2, 7-6 (7-4 in the tiebreaker) at No.3.

In doubles, Drew Stephenson and Neal Patel handled Jon Kirchhofer and Jax Burt 6-1, 7-5 at No.1. Gavin Baker and Braxton Fugate (in a match that was completed during the earlier trip) topped Cord Smith and Trevor Shields 6-1, 6-3 at No.2.

The Stars will visit Salem on Thursday.
