Lawrence County Sheriff takes steps to save on postage

BEDFORD – Lawrence County Sheriff Greg Day reported to the commissioners Tuesday morning he has taken steps to save his department on postage costs.

The department currently uses Pitney Bowes to provide their postage service. However, the company’s equipment no longer meets postal regulations. Sheriff Day told the commissioners the department pays $84 quarterly and with the new upgraded equipment that cost would triple to $251 quarterly.

“So over five years we would be spending more than $5,000,” Sheriff Day added. “I would like your permission to sign a contract with Quadient.”

Quadient would charge $22.95 for 36 months and would provide free postage for six months. After 36 months the cost would increase to $26.95. The cost for five years would be $1,300.

Sheriff Day will swear in Kevin Connor as the new Mitchell Community Schools resource officer this afternoon.

Kein Conner

Conner has 18 years of law enforcement service with 15 years serving as an Indiana Conservation officer.

The jail count is declining.

This morning there were 97 inmates housed at the jail of those 78 were males, 19 were females, five Department of Correction holds, two parole holds, and 12 Level 6 felons.

“We transported 25 DOC holds this week,” added Sheriff Day.
