Farmer reports theft from his farmhand

BEDFORD – A Medora man was arrested after he stole items from a farm where he was employed.

Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrested 31-year-old Wesley Ray on a charge of theft.

According to a probable cause affidavit, a male came to the department to report a small engine was stolen by a former employee on his farm.

The farmer reported his employee Ray took a Predator 5.5HP (173cc) Vertical Shaft Gas Engine, valued at $229.99 from his farm on Coxton Road to Harbor Freight in Bedford to exchange the engine for a
replacement of the same make and model.

The farmer stated he checked with Harbor Freight and confirmed with a receipt that the engine had been exchanged by Ray on January 27, 2023, at 12:57 p.m., however, Ray never returned with the engine and he has been unable to reach Ray by telephone.

Harbor Freight provided video footage of the transaction.

Police attempted to speak to Ray via telephone but were unsuccessful.

The information was forwarded to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department and a warrant was issued for Ray’s arrest.
