Two people injured in crash on Leesville Road

GUTHRIE TOWNSHIP – Two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash on Leesville Road on Wednesday, September 6th.

Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputies and first responders arrived at the crash scene at 7:25 a.m. 

According to a police report, Jason Stout, 49, of Seymour, was traveling south in the 4000 block of Leesville Road in a 2005 Silver Buick Lesabre. He told police he was traveling around 40 miles per hour approaching a curve when the vehicle began to slide on the wet road surface. Stout attempted to slowly apply the brakes. This caused the vehicle to cross the center line and strike a 2011 black Subaru Legacy being driven by Mackenzi Wilkinson, 44, of Bloomington.

Wilkinson told police she was traveling north on Leesville Road approaching the curve when she noticed another vehicle in her lane. 

The vehicles collided head-on.

Wilkinson told police she couldn’t remember what happened after the collision.

Wilkenson complained of left pain shoulder and the seatbelt left a mark on her shoulder. She also complained of neck and back pain. Wilkenson was taken by ambulance to IU Health Bedford Hospital..

Stout’s passenger Holly Chastain, 40, of Heltonville, suffered a broken leg and complained of neck and head pain. She was airlifted from the scene.

Stout was not injured.

Both vehicles had a substantial amount of damage to the front and both sides and both vehicles’ airbags were deployed. Damages were estimated between $10,001 and $25,000.

Stone City Collision towed both vehicles from the scene.
