Police found two grams of meth and make an arrest

BEDFORD – A Bloomington man was arrested on Friday, August 25th after a Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputy stopped a gray Honda traveling northbound on State Road 37.

The vehicle was registered to Lauren Dunkelbarger who has a suspended driver’s license. The officer stopped the vehicle on State Road 37 at Salt Creek Bridge.

Jason Magnus

Police say 43-year-old Jason Magnus, was a passenger in the vehicle. There was also a dog in the vehicle.

Dunkelbarger told police she knew she had a suspended driver’s license and needed to go to BMV and get her license. She told the deputy she was in the middle of moving to a different home and was on her way back to her current residence.

The officer reported that Dunkelbarger appeared nervous and would not make eye contact. The officer then learned Magnus also didn’t have a valid driver’s license and was a habitual traffic offender.

The deputy asked if there was anything illegal in the vehicle. Dunkelbarger would not allow the deputy to search the vehicle. Mitchell Police Department’s canine alerted officers to drugs in the vehicle.

In a small black bag, police found two grams of crystal meth and a glass smoking device. Magnus admitted the drugs were his.

Police arrested Magnus on a charge of possession of meth and drug paraphernalia.

Dunkelbarger was issued a citation for driving while her driver’s license was suspended. A family member arrived on the scene to take possession of the vehicle.
