BEDFORD – On Friday, August 25, officers with the Indiana State Police Drug Enforcement Section and the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department, concluded a lengthy investigation into the dealing of methamphetamine.
Police arrested 34-year-old Hope Grissom and 37-year-old Kaci Prewitt, both of Bedford.
Officers had received information that both Grissom and Prewitt were involved with dealing meth in and around Lawrence County, so an investigation was launched.
Using a variety of investigative techniques, probable cause was established to corroborate the allegations. On Friday afternoon, a traffic stop was conducted on Grissom along State Road 37, near Judah. Lawrence County Sgt. Michael Williams deployed his canine, Fleck, who gave a positive alert on Grissom’s vehicle. A subsequent search revealed that Grissom was in possession of approximately 3 grams of meth, along with multiple types of controlled substance pills and a loaded handgun.
At the same time, a traffic stop was conducted in Bloomington on Prewitt by the Indiana State Police and Bloomington Police Department. Prewitt was found to be in possession of approximately 14 grams of methamphetamine.
As a result of the investigation and the traffic stops, both females were arrested and incarcerated at the Lawrence County Jail.
Grissom was arrested on felony charges of conspiracy to deal meth, dealing meth, and possession of controlled substances.
Prewitt was arrested on a felony charge of conspiracy to deal meth.
Indiana State Police Drug Enforcement Section Detectives were assisted by Lawrence County Officers Sgt. Williams, Officer Kenton Carter, Officer Kinsley Duncan, Officer Chris Griggs, and Sheriff Greg Day.
