Jennings tennis conquers BNL 4-1

NORTH VERNON – Jennings County swept the doubles while conquering Bedford North Lawrence 4-1 during boys high school tennis action on Tuesday.

The Stars posted their only victory at No.3 singles as Orion Hill bounced Rider Ruddick 6-0, 6-1.

In doubles, Jennings won a first-set tiebreaker at No.1 as Cole Skinner and Ryan Schuck clipped Drew Stephenson and Neal Patel 7-6 (8-6), 6-2. At No.2, Brady Sentz and Ty Zhorlaut stopped Gavin Baker and Braxton Fugate 6-1, 7-5.

The Panthers also cruised at the top of the singles. Parker Bales topped Jayden Kemp 6-1, 6-1 at No.1, and Isaac Lightner defeated Jackson Corey 6-3, 6-1 at No.2.

“I think we match up pretty well against Jennings, and it was a good test for us tonight here in the early season,” BNL coach Chris Kurtz said. “We are still playing with the lineup a little bit, trying to figure out the best combinations at doubles. Things are improving each time out now, and I do like the way this team is trending.

“We will see Jennings again in a few weeks in the HHC tourney, and I look forward to that. I believe we’ll be ready.”

BNL (3-4) will host North Daviess on Monday. The scheduled match at Brown County on Thursday has been postponed because of the predicted heat index.
