GALENA – Bedford North Lawrence finished third in the Floyd Central Invitational at Valley View on Saturday.

The 17th-ranked Stars posted a season-best team total of 339. No.8 Floyd Central won the 12-team event with a sparkling 296, while No.11 Batesville was second with 306.

Chloe McFaddin and Kinleigh Root paced the Stars with identical scores of 81. Both players carded two birdies (both on the par-5 7th and 16th holes).

“Not a bad finish for us,” BNL coach Kori Johnston said. “We finally had some decent weather at Valley View, which helped, but play was still pretty slow. However, it’s the best 18-hole score we’ve put up this season, and I’m proud of the team for fighting through it.

“Chloe and Kinleigh played pretty decent. The greens were tough but they did a good job of recovering and staying locked in.”

Ellie Horton added an 86 while Sammie Nusbaum capped the BNL team scoring with 91.

“Ellie played much better,” Johnston said. “She’s a good player, but she’s been battling her swing some this season. Her mental game was much better and I’m proud of her for staying tough.

“This team has so much talent and potential to post good scores. Once we get our swings a little more dialed in, and confidence boosted, we’ll be a tough team to beat.”

Castle’s Ashley Kirkland was the medalist with a 3-under 68. Paige Giovenco fired a 73 for Floyd Central, while Ava South and Josie Meyer finished with 71s for Batesville.

BNL will host Edgewood at Otis Park on Monday.
