Transformative changes on I-69

INDIANA – As I-69 approaches the Finish Line, motorists on the south side have witnessed transformative changes to the local landscape as the new system-to-system interchange connecting I-69 and I-465 takes shape.

What for months appeared to be random piles of dirt have been sculpted into ramps, roadways, and approaches.  South of I-465 down to Epler Avenue the new interchange is becoming more visible with each passing day, with bridges taking shape, as well as the roadways connecting them.

A major step in finishing the new systems interchange is building the fly-over bridges connecting east and westbound I-465 to north and southbound I-69. Early this week, bridge crews expect to lift massive steel beams into place to support the future northbound I-69 to westbound I-465 ramp.

As work on the interchange continues, we ask all motorists on I-465 to keep their eyes on the road and not be distracted by the construction activity.

At Exit 7 the ramp from Mann Road to eastbound I-465 is expected to close on or after Sunday, August 13. During the 60-day closure, crews will reconstruct the ramp and improve drainage in the area. The ramp from I-465 westbound to Mann Road will remain open.

A single-lane closure is expected on southbound I-69 near Perry Road in Morgan County starting Wednesday morning. Motorists should reduce their speeds and watch out for work crews.

Watch for crews working along the shoulder in northern Morgan and Johnson counties as they apply some of the finishing touches.

A temporary ramp closure is expected from northbound I-69 to S.R. 252/S.R. 44 in Martinsville on Thursday.

As we previewed in last week’s On Track, motorists will soon notice big changes at the Smith Valley Road interchange, which is expected to partially open in mid-August.

Watch for trucks entering and exiting I-465 in the work zone near Harding Street and Mann Road.

The actual starting date and duration for work and any closures may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen activities occur.
