INDIANA – General Motors has issued a Voluntary Emissions Recall for select units of the 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 pickup truck due to a problem related to a faulty Engine Control Module (ECM).
Affected vehicles equipped with the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine may have a condition where the ECM fails to properly diagnose, set Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), or illuminate the Malfunction Indicator Light (Check Engine Light) if certain fault conditions of a catalytic converter failure were to occur.
Affected vehicles:
General Motors did not disclose how many Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 units are affected by this voluntary recall.
If the ECM were to improperly diagnose an emissions-related issue, the affected vehicle has the potential to fail emissions testing.
Certified GM technicians will be instructed to inspect the ECM and reprogram it as necessary. It should take techs roughly 45 minutes to perform the fix. It’s worth noting that some owners may be eligible for reimbursement.
GM will notify owners of affected vehicles and instruct them to make an appointment with their dealer.
