Stars finish 13th in prestigious State Preview

BNL finished 13th in the State Preview tournament at Prairie View on Saturday.

CARMEL – Bedford North Lawrence finished 13th in the prestigious 16-team State Preview tournament at Prairie View Golf Club on Saturday.

The 14th-ranked Stars carded a team total of 385. No.4 Westfield won the event with 312, followed by No.2 Center Grove (323), No.6 Zionsville (326) and No.1 Carmel (326). The tournament, played on the host site of the IHSAA state finals, included 14 ranked teams.

Chloe McFaddin paced BNL with an 86 that included two birdies (the fourth and seventh holes). Kenley Craig posted a 91 that included 8 pars.

“Chloe and Kenley both played better today,” BNL coach Kori Johnston said. “Kenley had one bad hole or she would have been in the 80s.”

Ellie Horton and Kinleigh Root capped the BNL scoring with 104s.

“Scores were a little higher than we hoped for, but it was good to get another look at the course,” said Johnston, whose club competed in the state finals last season. “We expect to be back later this season, so today was a good refresher on what we need to work on. This was also Sammie’s (Nusbaum) first time seeing the course so I’m proud of her for staying mentally tough and learning the course.

“Ultimately we are looking at today as a practice round and we know what we need to work on. We have a lot of room for improvement before the postseason but I’m confident we can get there.”

The Stars will visit Floyd Central for a three-way match that also includes Jennings County on Monday.
