Four Columbus residents arrested after police uncover narcotics activity at home

COLUMBUS – Four Columbus residents were arrested after an investigation led to the SWAT team raiding a home on Lafayette Avenue in Columbus.

According to a news release from the Bartholomew County Joint Narcotics Enforcement Team, a number of tips and complaints came through the Columbus Police Department that stated narcotics activities were occurring at a home in the 1400 block of Lafayette Avenue.

Shelby Mitchner

Following a traffic stop near the home Monday night, police arrested 52-year-old Shelby E. Mitchner of Columbus for possession of methamphetamine.

Kimberly Callahan

During an additional traffic stop of a vehicle seen leaving the home, 40-year-old Kimberly Callahan was arrested for one count of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and one count of possession of a controlled substance.

Drugs found during the raid

Officials said in the release that law enforcement seized methamphetamine in the kitchen, the living room, and two of the bedrooms of the home. Fentanyl was also located in one of the bedrooms as well as other drug paraphernalia.

Larry Bergeron

During the raid, police arrested 69-year-old Larry G. Bergeron, and 52-year-old Vanessa E. Cowan, both of Columbus, on charges of possession of methamphetamine.

Bergeron is also accused of maintaining a common nuisance while Cowan is facing a charge of visiting a common nuisance.
