State Road 256 to close for bridge replacement in Washington County

WASHINGTON CO. – Indiana Department of Transportation contractor Force Construction Company plans to begin work next week to replace the State Road 256 bridge over Muscatatuck River Overflow in Washington County.

On or after Monday, August 7, State Road 256 will close for up to 150 days at the bridge located 1.2 miles east of State Road 39. During the closure, motorists will be routed along the official detour, which follows State Road 39, State Road 56, and I-65.

The $4.7 million contract was awarded in January and also includes the bridge replacement currently in progress on State Road 256 over the Muscatatuck River and a small structure replacement.

INDOT reminds drivers to slow down, use caution and drive distraction-free in and near construction zones. All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.
