Intoxicated teen arrested after resisting arrest

BEDFORD – Bedford Police officers were requested Monday afternoon to the parking lot of the JayC store on 16th Street after a report of a possible intoxicated driver in a burgundy Chevrolet Equinox.

The caller believed there were four or five people in the vehicle and was able to follow the vehicle. The caller alerted dispatch the vehicle had pulled into the Thornton Park basketball court parking lot.

Officer Landon Jones was flagged down by the caller near the Teen Center and the caller pointed out the vehicle.

Officers Jarrett Tedrow and Jones approached the vehicle parked on the north side of the basketball courts and spoke to the occupants.

Police say the driver 19-year-old Phillip Baker Jr. was intoxicated. He had a 13-year-old male passenger with him.

Baker was uncooperative with officers and backed away from the officers and attempted to walk away from the scene. The officers attempted to detain Baker and place him in handcuffs. He resisted, pulled away, and refused to put his hands behind his back.

Officers escorted Baker to a grassy area and placed him on the ground. While on the ground he continued to resist attempting to pull away and placing his arms underneath his chest. He was ordered several times to stop resisting and Baker continued to fight. He was finally tased so officers could gain compliance.

The 13-year-old was given a preliminary breath test at the scene and tested negative for alcohol.

Baker was transported to jail on charges of illegal consumption and resisting arrest by force. While at the jail he tested 0.168 percent on a preliminary breath test.

Baker is facing charges of illegal consumption and resisting arrest by force.
