BLOOMINGTON – Bedford North Lawrence, ranked No.14 in the IHSGCA preseason poll, finished seventh in the power-packed Bloomington South Invitational during high school golf action at Bloomington Country Club on Monday.

The Stars, facing a 17-team field that featured eight ranked squads, carded a score of 362. No.1 Carmel won the season-opening event with 303, followed by No.2 Center Grove (308), No.5 Noblesville (318), No.11 Franklin (323), No.4 Westfield (331) and No.7 Floyd Central (340).

Chloe McFaddin paced BNL with an 85 that included a birdie on the sixth hole, while Ellie Horton posted an 88 highlighted by six pars.

“Not a bad first day,” BNL coach Kori Johnston said. “We struggled a little bit, we had some nerves. We’ll take it. We saw a lot of good shots, and this course (with its reputation for ultra-quick greens) can be a little rough on us.

“It was good to see scores from other teams that we’ll play in the postseason. It’s a first look at everybody.”

Kenley Craig added a 93 while Kinleigh Root and Sammie Nusbaum capped the team scoring with 96s.

BNL will visit Stonecrest for a nine-hole match with Mitchell on Thursday.
