Town of Medora reestablishes Unsafe Building Board

MEDORA — The Medora Town Council appointed Carr Township Volunteer Fire Department Chief Joe Barnes and town residents Josh LePage and Sharon Bowers to the town’s Unsafe Building Board to address unsafe properties in the town and find solutions to clean up those properties.

The board will be able to hold public hearings on any properties they deem unsafe and issue fines.

After receiving multiple complaints the town council decided it was time to reinstate the board to address the problem.

The board’s duties are to find and investigate properties deemed unsafe for the general health, safety, and well-being of the town residents. Once a property is deemed unsafe Town Attorney Matt Lorenzo will send a notice to the property owner requiring them to fix the issue.

If problems are not corrected, the property owner will be ordered to attend a public hearing. If they do not attend that hearing, then the town can follow suit by issuing citations to the property owner.

Town residents also can approach the board if they have concerns about a certain property.
