Indiana State Police Investigating Officer involved in Anderson shooting

ANDERSON – Today, Indiana State Detectives were requested to investigate a shooting that took place around 12 a.m. this morning in Anderson.

Investigations determined that Deputy Robert Lemon, a four-year veteran with the Madison department, had been patrolling around 5th and Jackson streets, and had stopped at a light at the intersection when individuals at the Jackson Mart gas station fired shots in his general direction. Lemon left his vehicle and returned fire at least with one shot from his side-arm.

Lemon was not injured in the exchange, but an individual identified as Aundray Lamonte took a bullet and was transported to the local hospital. He was treated for his wounds, then released. As of this time, investigators are not sure which party the bullet was from.

The Indiana State Police was assisted by the Madison County Sheriff’s Department, Anderson Police Department, and the Madison County Prosecutor’s Office.

The information in this release is preliminary.  This investigation is still ongoing.
