I-69 Finish Line Project Update

INDIANA – Another major step towards progress occurred over the weekend as Finish Line crews continued work on I-465 on Indianapolis’s southwest side. Road crews successfully closed westbound I-465 between I-65 and I-70 to complete work related to added capacity, perform road surface upgrades and improve utilities and drainage.

During the closure westbound I-465 and the following ramps will be closed to traffic:

  • I-65 to I-465 westbound31/East Street to I-465 westbound
  • Harding Street/S.R. 37 to I-465 westbound
  • Kentucky Avenue/S.R. 67 to I-465 westbound

To gain an understanding of what kind of work is being accomplished, watch this short video from the eastbound I-465 closure in June.

The official detour follows northbound I-65 to westbound I-70 at the South Split. We encourage motorists to plan for extra travel time and seek alternate routes when possible or check out 511.org before heading out the door and see what your commute looks like. Be sure to follow @I69FinishLine on FacebookInstagram and Twitter to stay up-to-date on the latest project news. We thank you for your patience as crews work quickly and effectively!

I-465

  • An intermittent left lane closure on eastbound I-465 is expected near U.S. 31 during the westbound I-465 closure. This will give room for crews to safely move in and out of the work zone.
  • During the westbound closure, crews will start installing sound barriers near the Kentucky Avenue exit ramp.

I-69

  • A long-term closure of Belmont Avenue is expected late this week to begin building the new Belmont Avenue access under future I-69.
  • Crews expect to switch the northbound lanes of State Road 37 between Banta Road and Smith Valley Road onto new pavement later this week.
  • Watch for crews working in the shoulders of I-69 and S.R. 37 as they continue to install right-of-way fencing along the corridor.

About I-69 Finish Line:
I-69 Finish Line is the sixth and final section of the Interstate 69 connection between Evansville and Indianapolis. The project will upgrade the existing State Road 37 to interstate standards between Martinsville and Indianapolis.

Governor Eric Holcomb’s Next Level Connections program fully funded the project and accelerated construction by three years. I-69 Finish Line is on track to open to traffic in late 2024, improving safety and reducing travel time.
