Speeding teen arrested for marijuana

BEDFORD – A Bedford teen was arrested Sunday after a Bedford Police officer noticed a speeding driver at 6:09 p.m. traveling west on 16th Street.

The officer pulled over the driver of the gold Audi A4 after the driver failed to use his turn signal while entering the McDonald’s parking lot.

The driver of the vehicle was 19-year-old Aiden Ping, of Bedford.

While speaking to Ping and his female passenger, the officer could smell the odor of alcohol and marijuana.

When asked if there was marijuana in the vehicle, Ping told the officer, “No, I already smoked it”. He said he had smoked it about 20 minutes before the traffic stop.

Police say Ping’s eyes were red and glassy and his manual dexterity was slow. He failed several field sobriety tests.

During a search of Ping’s vehicle, police found marijuana in a Swisher Sweet Cigar package in the driver’s side compartment.

Ping was detained and transported to IU Health Hospital for a blood draw.

He was then transported to the Bedford Police Department and then to jail.

While at the jail, jail officers located another Swisher Sweets Cigar package with two hand-rolled marijuana cigarettes inside Ping’s underwear.

Ping is facing charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, OWI controlled substance, OWI endangerment, and possession of marijuana.
