Motorcycle vs car crash claims one life in Vigo County

VIGO CO. – Friday night, June 16, 2023, at approximately 7:10 p.m., Indiana State Police responded to a motorcycle vs. vehicle accident on 3rd Street at Bayh Way.

The investigation revealed that Trooper Daniel Organ of the Putnamville State Police Post attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a 2012 Suzuki motorcycle at the intersection of 3rd Street and 8th Avenue for a registration violation. However, the driver of the motorcycle disregarded Trooper Organ’s emergency lights on his fully marked state police commission and accelerated southbound away from Trooper Organ at a high rate of speed.

The motorcyclist disregarded a red traffic light at 3rd Street and Locust Street and continued southbound, at a high rate of speed. Reaching the intersection of 3rd Street and Chestnut, evidence indicates that the motorcyclist came to a complete stop, but then once again continued southbound on 3rd Street at a high rate of speed.

At the intersection of 3rd Street and Bayh Way, a 2002 Jeep Liberty driven by Brian Scott, age 53, of Terre Haute, Indiana, had the green turn arrow and was attempting to turn westbound on Bayh Way. The motorcyclist, who was traveling southbound, disregarded the red light, striking Scott’s vehicle. The collision from the accident threw the driver off the motorcycle.

Medical assistance was immediately rendered to the driver of the motorcycle who was later transported to a local hospital. The driver later succumbed to the injuries received from the accident. Scott was uninjured.

The driver of the motorcycle has been identified as Kaleb Long, age 24, of Terre Haute, Indiana.
