One killed, another arrested in Sullivan crash

SULLIVAN – One person died and another was arrested after a collision between an off-road vehicle and a motorcycle around 1:50 a.m. Saturday, June 10 at Sullivan County Road 300 North and Mary Sherman Drive in Sullivan.

According to the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department a Polaris off-road vehicle being operated by 22-year-old Emmitt Forbes, of Sullivan drove left of center into the oncoming lane of traffic. Forbes struck head-on a motorcycle.

The male operating the motorcycle was transported to Sullivan County Community Hospital and then flown by Helicopter to IU Methodist in Indianapolis, where he was pronounced dead.

That driver’s s name was not released pending notification of family members.

Forbes was given a chemical test which revealed his blood alcohol level to be 0.22%.

Forbes is facing preliminary charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated causing death, reckless homicide, reckless driving causing death, OWI, and driving left of center.

Assisting deputies were officers with the Sullivan Police Department, Indiana State Police troopers, and the Sullivan County Prosecutor’s Office.
