BEDFORD – Lawrence County Superior Court I Judge John M. Plummer III sentenced a Mitchell woman to 4 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections and one year in the Lawrence County Jail on Tuesday.

Amy Terrell, 35, pled guilty to 4 counts of Neglect of a Dependent, all Level 6 felonies, Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated, a Level 6 felony, and Resisting Law Enforcement a Class A Misdemeanor.

Judge Plummer sentenced Amy Terrell to a total of 4 years to the Indiana Department of Corrections and 1 year to the Lawrence County Jail, 2.5 years of that sentence was suspended to supervised probation.

Chief Deputy Prosecutor Joshua Scherschel: “The Defendant not only made the choice to drink and drive, but to drink and drive with children in the vehicle. These children were entrusted to the Defendant’s care, to get them to and from their destination safely, and in this instance, the Defendant chose not to do that. She put them in immense risk and danger, as well as other members of this community who were on the
road that day. The prison sentence handed down by Judge Plummer was appropriate based on the choices that the Defendant made.”
