Seymour man arrested for driving while intoxicated after speeding on State Road 37

BEDFORD – A Seymour man was arrested on Saturday, May 27 after Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputy Andrew Tillett was parked in the median of State Road 37 near 5th Street and spotted a vehicle traveling south on State Road 37 at a high rate of speed.

Officer Tillett clocked the vehicle traveling 80 miles per hour in a 55-mile-per-hour zone. The officer attempted to stop the 2015 Chevrolet Malibu but the driver continued to travel south on State Road 37. After the officer honked the horn multiple times, the driver continued past the intersection of State Road 37 and 5th Street. As the vehicle approached John Williams Boulevard the driver of the Malibu switched into the left turn lane and came to a stop at the stop light.

The officer approached the driver 37-year-old Jonathan Morris, of Seymour. The officer noticed Morris had his pants open and had urinated himself.

When asked if he had been drinking, Morris said, “Just at the..the club.”

Morris was asked to step out of the vehicle. He failed several field sobriety tests.

Morris was arrested on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a blood-alcohol level of 0.15 or greater and issued a citation for speeding.
