Man punches pregnant woman and is arrested

MITCHELL – A Mitchell man was arrested after Mitchell Police officers responded to a domestic fight Saturday morning.

When police arrived at 315 West Warren Street at 9:19 a.m. and made contact with the female victim. Officers noticed a red bruise along with other minor bruising on the woman’s face and jaw.

She told police that her ex-boyfriend 31-year-old Jacob York had been physical with her. The woman was five months pregnant. An ambulance was requested to the scene.

The woman told police that York had left the residence on a bicycle and was headed towards the laundromat at 505 West Warren Street.

The woman requested to file charges and signed a battery affidavit.

She told police there were three children who were at the home at the time of the incident.

The woman told police, she had been watching a movie with York and she had gone to the bathroom. York got mad because she had taken too long and thought she was texting someone else while in the bathroom.

The woman told police, York had grabbed her by the hair and hit her with a closed fist in the right eye. Police say the woman suffered bruising to her eye and bruising to her right arm.

Other family members intervened and York left the home.

Police found York at the laundromat. He was arrested on charges of battery resulting in bodily injury to a pregnant woman, domestic battery in the presence of a minor, possession of meth, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

York denied hitting the woman. He claimed he was holding her arms to keep her from hitting him. He did have scratches on the left side of his face. He stated the woman had headbutted him in the back of the head but there were no visible marks on his head. He also stated that the woman had thrown an ashtray at him.

York discussed past incidents of previous domestic-related incidents between him and the woman.

In York’s pants pockets, police found a glass smoking pipe. A baggie with meth residue and a straw that is typically used to snort the drug was found inside his cigarette pack. He told police the woman had put those items in his pocket. Police also found a “Moon Buzz” pouch that contained marijuana and a burned marijuana cigarette inside the pouch.
