Intoxicated Bedford man found in middle of street with his shorts around his ankles

BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested after Bedford Police officers responded to a 911 call Friday reporting a man was in the middle of the road in the 2000 block of I Street.

When police arrived at 4:29 p.m. they found a group of people attempting to get 52-year-old Danny Yarberry to return to his home. Yarberry’s neighbors reported that Yarberry had fallen in the middle of the street at 20th and I streets and was laying in the street with his shorts around his ankles.

Several neighbors were concerned Yarberry would get hit by a vehicle. They said Yarberry was yelling and making a commotion. Another neighbor went to assist Yarberry out of the road and that is when he grabbed him. But the neighbor refused to file charges against Yarberry.

Police say Yarberry was acting erratically and he was intoxicated. While at Yarberry’s home, an officer noticed a rope around a dog’s neck. When asked about the rope, Yarberry walked over to his dog and started hitting it in an aggressive manner that was cruel and unnecessary. The dog then snarled at Yarberry and attempted to get away. Yarberry then grabbed the dog by its collar and raised the dog off the ground and placed it inside his house. The dog whined when Yarberry did this and struggled to breathe.

Police say Yarberry continued to be unreasonable and was talking “out of his head”. While speaking to Yarberry he pulled his shorts down to his ankles revealing his genitals and buttocks to everyone.

Yarberry was transported to IU Health Hospital for a medical evaluation. Once medically cleared he was arrested on charges of public intoxication, animal cruelty, disorderly conduct, and public nudity.

Animal control arrived at the scene and took possession of Yarberry’s dog. They also attempted to capture two cats, but they ran off so traps were set to capture them.
