BNL wins third straight Unified sectional

JASPER – Bedford North Lawrence won its third consecutive Unified track sectional title on Saturday.

The Stars scored 111 points to share the team title with Bloomington South, while Bloomington North was third with 110. The top three teams advanced to the regional at BNL on May 27.

Winners for BNL included Trace Walters and Samantha Biel in shot put. Kris Kunkle in long jump, and the boys 4×100 relay (Ethan Robinson, Koltyn Clute, Josh Morales and Brax Huber).

“This was a very tough sectional,” BNL coach Mike Branam said. “To have the top three teams separated by a single point, I have never experienced anything like it. Bloomington North and Bloomington South are both extremely tough programs.

“Our kids gave it everything they had. Going into today, I told the kids that all they had to do was their very best, and I would be proud of them. That is exactly what they did. Almost everyone either met or beat their seed. The team gave some amazing performances. They showed a lot of guts, and they got the outcome they deserved.”

BNL won its fourth sectional title in program history.
