Chevy Express recalled for incorrect vehicle emissions label

INDIANA – GM has issued a voluntary emissions recall for certain units of the 2021 to 2023 Chevy Express that may have an incorrect Vehicle Emissions Control Information (VECI) label attached.

The recall also applies to certain units of the 2021 to 2023 GMC Savana.

Affected vehicles may have an incorrect maximum completed vehicle frontal area value printed on their Vehicle Emissions Control Information (VECI) label.

The Vehicle Emissions Control Information label may contain information that is not correct.

Certified GM technicians will inspect the vehicle and if necessary remove the incorrect Vehicle Emissions Control Information label. They will then replace it with a new VECI containing the correct maximum completed vehicle frontal area value.

Additionally, GM placed affected units of the Chevy Express on a stop delivery in Canada starting on March 30, 2023. Dealers in both Canada and the U.S. are instructed by GM to keep an unsold inventory of the affected Chevy Express until the correct fix can be applied. Unsold units should not be sold, delivered, traded with other dealerships, or used for demonstrations until the correct Vehicle Emissions Control Information label has been installed.

Involvement of a specific Chevy Express unit in the recall can be confirmed by looking on the GM Global Warranty Management System to see if it’s marked “Open” on the Investigate Vehicle History screen. This check should be carried out before a new label is applied.

Affected vehicles:

GM has not indicated how many Chevy Express units are affected at this time.

GM is mailing notification letters to all owners of affected Chevy Express units informing them of the recall. A replacement Vehicle Emissions Control Information label is enclosed with the letter, which the owner should bring to the dealership so it can be used to replace the incorrect label. If no label is mailed with the notification letter, the dealership can order the correct label online.
