NORTH VERNON – Jennings County pushed across a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to clip Bedford North Lawrence 2-1 in the consolation round of the Hoosier Hills Conference tournament on Thursday.

Austin Byford doubled in the go-ahead run as Jennings handed the Stars their second straight one-run loss in the tournament.

Jennings (9-12) scored first in the first. Keegan Manowitz singled, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on Byford’s ground out to shortstop.

The Stars (14-7) answered in the third. Tate Tanksley singled to center, Maddox Ray sacrificed him to second, and Cal Gates delivered a two-out RBI double to right.

In the seventh, Manowitz led off with a single and went to second on a ground out. After Manowitz stole third, Byford delivered the double to left.

Jennings starter Cole Sigler allowed only four hits (two by Tanksley) and struck out five during his complete-game performance. BNL’s Cristos McCormick was just as effective as he went the distance and gave up only four hits.

BNL will finish the HHC tourney on Friday, hosting Columbus East. The Stars will face a rematch with Jennings on Monday at BNL.
