Dr. Stephen Kissel named Outstanding Recent Alumni at Oakland City University

OAKLAND CITY – Oakland City University History professor Dr. Stephen Kissel has been named an “Outstanding Recent Alumni” at his alma mater, Saint Louis University.

Dr. Stephen Kissel, Associate Professor of History at Oakland City University, was presented with Saint Louis University’s Department of History 2023 Outstanding Recent Alumni Award.

Dr. Kissel received his Ph.D. in American History in 2017, a Master of Arts in American History in 2013 at Saint Louis University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in History with a Speech Communication minor from McKendree University in 2009.

Dr. Kissel has been part of the Oakland City University campus community since August 2019, where he relishes the daily challenge of bringing History alive for new generations of students. “It is a joy to use my passion for history and teaching to serve in an academic environment that is as supportive, welcoming, and faith-based as Oakland City University.” He recently published his first book, America’s Religious Crossroads: Faith and Community in the Emerging Midwest, through the University of Illinois Press.

Dr. Kissel also stated he was incredibly honored to be selected by the SLU History Department for the award. He is grateful to God for the countless family, friends, and colleagues at Saint Louis University and Oakland City University who have supported him throughout his professional endeavors.
