State Road 256 to close May 1 for bridge replacement project in Jackson County

JACKSON CO. — Indiana Department of Transportation contractor Force Construction plans to close State Road 256 next week between State Road 39 and Austin for a bridge replacement project in Jackson County. The structure is located 2.5 miles east of S.R. 39. The closure is anticipated to last up to 30 days, weather permitting.

Two additional projects are included in the $4.7 million contract.

  • Bridge replacement, S.R. 256 located 1.5 miles west of I-65 over Muscatatuck River (anticipated to begin June 2023)
  • Bridge replacement, S.R. 256 located one mile east of S.R. 39 (anticipated to begin in 2024)

During the closure, drivers should use the official detour which follows I-65, S.R. 56, and S.R.39, or seek an alternate route.

INDOT reminds drivers to slow down, avoid distractions, and consider worker safety when traveling through active construction zones. All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.
