Woman flees into gas station bathroom to get rid of evidence and is arrested

BEDFORD –  A Springville woman was arrested on Saturday, April 16th after a Bedford Police officer spotted a vehicle traveling west on 16th and H Street and continuing west onto 16th Street through the intersection disregarding the one-way traffic pattern and driving head-on at the police car.

The driver, who was later identified as Floyd Hillenburg, leaned out the window and yelled as the officer backed up to speak with him. There was a female passenger,  36-year-old Kathy Osborne, of Springville.

There was no oncoming traffic in the intersection and the officer told Hillenburg to back through the intersection to the normal traffic pattern.

Police say Hillenburg struggled for several seconds with the gear shift of the vehicle and both he and Osborne made several erratic movements with their arms and hands toward their faces and seatbelts. Hillenburg was eventually able to back the vehicle through the intersection as the officer followed. Police say Hillenburg made several quick accelerations and stops while backing. Once he was facing east of the intersection he immediately made a right turn into the parking lot of the Circle K gas station, parked, and exited the vehicle despite the officer still being behind him. Osborne rapidly exited the vehicle before it was in park and entered the store.

Hillenburg approached me and stated that he did not have a driver’s license and that he was only out to go to the grocery store. The officer asked Hillenburg to return to his vehicle so the officer could watch for Osborne to exit the store and wait on other responding officers.

After other officers arrived on the scene, officers entered the store and detained Osborne who was found in the bathroom.

Oborne was immediately removed from the restroom, placed in handcuffs, and escorted from the building.

In the bathroom, police found a digital scale in the trash.  In her backpack, police found crystal meth in a pill bottle and a small plastic bag with crystal meth. Police seized over 10 grams of meth.

There were several other similar plastic baggies located in the bathroom that had crystal meth residue in them.

Osborne was arrested on charges of dealing meth, possession of meth, resisting arrest by fleeing, obstruction of justice, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The officer wrote Hillenburg a summons to appear in court on a charge of driving while his driver’s license was suspended.

Osborne later admitted she had picked up 12 grams of meth from a female in Bloomington and returned to Lawrence County. She planned to keep one gram for herself and sell the rest. She refused to tell police where or from who she purchased the drugs. She told the officers she knew they were stopping the vehicle and got out of the truck to get rid of the evidence.
