Bedford woman fails to comply with police commands

BEDFORD – A Bedford woman was arrested on charges of public intoxicated and disorderly conduct after an incident on Thursday,  April 13.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Bedford Police officers were requested to 1026 24th Street after a report of a person being struck by a vehicle. When officers arrived, the caller told police that one of the people involved had fled on foot.

Officers searched the area and located Jeff Novak and escorted him back to the scene. 

The driver, identified as Connie Foster, informed police that she was related to her passengers 45-year-old Moya Mason and Jeff Novak.

Foster told police she was contacted by Mason, who asked to pick her up because she and Novak had been arguing and causing their elderly mother great distress. 

While speaking to Foster, Mason exited the vehicle and began interrupting officers while they spoke to Foster. 

An officer informed Mason they would talk to her and that she needed to take a seat in the vehicle. She failed to comply with the officer’s orders.

Foster continued to speak to police and said Novak was hanging on the side of the vehicle as she was driving away from the home with Mason. He then let go and fell to the ground

While speaking to Foster, Mason continued to get loud and began crying. She was warned again to calm down and stop interfering. 

Police say Mason was intoxicated. Due to her attitude and demeanor, she was escorted back to the vehicle Foster was driving and told again to sit down and remain quiet. 

While speaking with the caller, Mason again began screaming and yelling in the back of the vehicle causing a  scene. She was ordered again to stop but refused to comply and started to exit the vehicle again. 

She was detained on charges of public intoxication and disorderly conduct and placed in a police car where she continued to yell and scream.

Novak was medically cleared by an IU LifeLine, ambulance crew and released from the scene. 

At the jail, Mason was given a portable breath test and had a blood-alcohol level of 0.244.
