Man arrested on OWI charges after being stopped for an expired license plate

BEDFORD – An Orleans man was arrested early Sunday after a Bedford Police Officer stopped his vehicle on 16th Street for an expired license plate.

The driver was 20-year-old Brandon Stalker and police say he smelled of alcoholic beverages, had glassy bloodshot eyes and his speech was slurred.

Officer Nicholas Crulo had Stalker perform several field sobriety tests which he failed. He was then asked to take a preliminary breath test and while the officer was gathering the equipment he noticed Stalker put something in his mouth, it was a coin. Stalker told the officer that he thought the coin would not make him register during the breath test. Stalker blew a 0.081 blood-alcohol level.

In the vehicle, officers found four 50 ml of Fireball and a package of marijuana gummies.

Stalker was arrested on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, OWI endangerment, illegal consumption, and possession of marijuana.
