Thompson wins two events as Stars finish second in meets at North

BLOOMINGTON – Bloomington North raced to dominating wins over Bedford North Lawrence and Brown County during high school track action on Tuesday night.

The Cougars won the boys meet with 110.5 points, followed by the Stars (42.5) and Eagles (14). North also won the girls meet with 120.5 points, followed by BNL (31.5) and Brown County (12).

Zane Thompson was a double winner for the Stars. He crossed first in the 100-meter dash in 11.61, and he won the 300 low hurdles in 39.49.

Others winners for BNL included Brayden Patterson (5-10 in the high jump) and Hiram Mullis (18.13 in the 110 high hurdles). The Stars also got scoring from Cameron Miller (second in the 110 highs in 18.76), Karter West (second in the high jump at 5-8), Frank Decker (second in the pole vault at 11-0), Carter Kimmel (second in the discus at 126-5), and Jerrett Gilbert (third in the 800).

In the girls meet, BNL’s Francesca Orozco won the high jump with a personal-best of 4-8. Ellie Anderson tied for second in the high jump (4-8) and also finished second in the long jump (15-9).

Other top scorers for the Stars included Mary Batz (third in the 400), Katie Baumgart (third in the discus), Jabrie Sullivan (third in the 3200) and Trinity Schmeichel (third in the 100 hurdles).

“It was a good meet for us,” BNL coach Jason Webb said. “There was a lot of competition with North having a lot of numbers, so even the runners in the second and third flights were running against good competition. They were able to see their times drop a little bit as well.”

BNL will compete at Seymour on Thursday.
