Springville man was taken to jail after a two-vehicle accident on State Road 45

GREENE CO. – A Springville man was arrested after a two-vehicle accident Friday on State Road 45, south of the Greene County line.

Officers responded to the accident at 7:53 p.m.

According to Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy Caleb Sipes, Brian Swafford, 54, of Springville, was traveling south in a 2011 Chevrolet 3500 when he left the roadway. The vehicle stuck an REMC guide wire and a mailbox before returning to the roadway.

Once on the roadway, the vehicle went left of the centerline causing 28-year-old Troy Cullison, of Bloomfield who was traveling north in a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado on State Road 45 to swerve into the opposing lane to avoid a head-on collision.

Swafford then swerved his vehicle back toward the southbound lane striking Cullison’s vehicle causing both vehicles to leave the roadway.

No injuries were reported.

Swafford was arrested on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, OWI endangerment, and OWI with a blood alcohol level of 0.15 or above.

Both lanes of traffic were shut down for the towing service to remove the vehicles until 9:13 p.m.
