Lawrence County Detectives continue the investigation into the murder of 20-month-old Elli Plummer

BEDFORD – Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department detectives continue to investigate the murder of 20-month-old Elliaunna (Elli) Marji Plummer.

“The investigation into the death of baby Elliaunna Plummer is still active and ongoing,” said Sheriff Greg Day. “Detectives have conducted multiple interviews, polygraph examinations have taken place, and numerous other investigative steps have been taken.  Investigators are still awaiting the final forensic pathology report.”

On Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at approximately 12:13 p.m. Lawrence County Central Dispatch received a call from Bedford Police Department dispatch advising that their officers responded to IU Health Bedford Emergency Department regarding a possible case of child abuse or neglect.

Those responding officers determined that the alleged incident likely occurred at Maple Ridge Apartments, which is outside of the city limits, north of Bedford. 

Lawrence County deputies and detectives responded to IU Health Bedford and spoke to responding officers from the Bedford Police Department, hospital personnel, the child’s mother, and a case worker from the Indiana Department of Child Services.

They learned that a 20-month-old child was being transported by air ambulance to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis for a brain injury, a broken collar bone, and other injuries that appeared non-accidental. 

On November 26th at 4:35 p.m., the child was pronounced dead at Riley Hospital. Detectives and deputies attended the post-mortem examination that was conducted on November 29th.

Elli’s death is being investigated as a homicide and anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Captain Slone at the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office.
