Man slaps woman in the face and prevents her from calling 911

BEDFORD – A man was arrested on Friday, March 10th after Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputies received a 911 hang-up from a home in the 5000 block of State Road 58.

Then two minutes later at 6:55 p.m. Central Dispatch received a 911 text from a woman who reported her son was at the home and “is dangerous and needed to be removed from the home”. The caller said her son was suffering from schizophrenia and there was an active protective order in place.

Kevin Chase

When police arrived they found 38-year-old Kevin Chase outside of the home.

Police say he was “agitated and argumentative” and he was detained. Chase had to be forcibly placed in a police car.

The victim told police Chase had shown up at her house the day prior and entered “unwelcomed and unannounced”. She claimed he now was causing issues and when she asked him to leave, Chase slapped her in the face.

When asked if she wanted to file charges she initially declined but then signed a battery affidavit.

She then admitted that Chase had interfered with her making a 911 call.

Chase is facing charges of domestic battery and interfering with reporting a crime.
