Bloomfield man arrested on drug charges after being stopped for expired license plates

BEDFORD – A Bloomfield man was arrested Thursday after a Bedford Police officer stopped his vehicle have having an expired license plate.

The officer stopped the vehicle at Revere’s Food & Fuel on 16th Street.

The officer spoke to the driver 32-year-old Derek Workman, of Bloomfield, and his female passenger.

Workman said he had recently purchased the car and had not gotten new license plates for it.

While speaking with Workman the officer noticed he was visibly trembling.

The officer wrote Workman a written warning for the expired license plate. While conducting the business of the traffic stop, the officer contacted the Oolitic Marshal Harrington and requested his K9 partner Deny Joe.

Both Workman and his passenger were asked to step out of the vehicle. During a pat down the officer found a syringe in Workman’s pocket and Workman was detained.

Also found in Workman’s pocket were four plastic baggies containing crystal meth and three more syringes. Officers seized 7 grams of meth.

The female passenger denied any knowledge of the illegal drugs. 

During a  search of the vehicle, officers located multiple syringes in the driver’s door along with a metal spoon containing meth residue and a pill bottle not belonging to Workman containing 10 Ondansetron pills.

Inside the female’s purse, the officer found one syringe.

 Jackson’s wrecker service arrived on the scene and took possession of the vehicle.

The female was released from the scene. 

Workman was detained on charges of possession of meth under 10 grams, possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a syringe, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
