Mitchell man behind bars after police discover he has been selling drugs

BEDFORD – A Mitchell man was arrested Friday after Bedford Police officers were requested to CVS Pharmacy on 16th Street after it was reported that an individual was passed out in a vehicle in the parking lot.

The caller said the woman appeared to have her foot on the brake and her vehicle was running.

When police arrived, they located the vehicle parked crooked in the parking space, running, with the brake lights activated.

In the vehicle was 43-year-old Joshua Zollman, of Mitchell, in the driver’s seat. Zollman was unconscious, with his head resting on the lower portion of the steering wheel and arms resting in his lap.

Police said there was an open alcoholic beverage container in the center console.

An officer banged loudly on the driver’s side window of the vehicle, however, Zollman would not wake up. An officer then used an emergency air horn to wake Zollman.

Zollman regained consciousness, grabbed the steering wheel and gear shift, and began performing the motion of placing the vehicle into park several times.

Once Zollman opened the door to the vehicle, an officer removed the keys from the ignition and instructed Zollman to exit.

Police said Zollman’s movements were very lethargic.

Zollman was detained.

Police said Zollman had red glassy eyes, the odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from his person, poor balance and slurred speech.

When asked how much he had to drink today, police said Zollman told them, “not much.”

During a body search, police found a large sum of cash in Zollman’s front jacket pocket and wallet. Also located on his person was an electronic smoking device containing THC and six electronic smoking cartridges containing THC.

Zollman failed several field sobriety tests. He was asked if he would consent to a blood draw and was transported to IU Health Hospital.

Canine Maximus alerted police to drugs in Zollman’s vehicle.

Officers then conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle. During the search, Officers located, 15 clear plastic bags containing marijuana. In total the baggies weighed 1,119.8 grams, one clear baggie containing eight containing chocolates with a marijuana leaf imprinted on them, a baggie containing 14 chocolate lollipops with a marijuana leaf imprinted on them, a baggie containing five red lollipops, an electronic smoking device containing a liquid THC, 22 THC cartridges, a baggy containing 30 grams of Psilocybin mushrooms, another baggie of Psilocybin mushrooms with an envelope inside that contained 12 $100 bills and five $20 bills. Officers also found a paper with written drug transactions and orders for illegal drugs.

In total police seized a total of $4,491 in cash.

Zollman’s phone continued to receive messages from multiple individuals possibly related to the sale of illegal narcotics. Due to this, Zollman’s phone was confiscated pending the completion of a search warrant.

Zollmen refused to cooperate with officers or speak to them, police said.

He was transported to the Lawrence County Jail on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, OWI Endangerment, dealing in a controlled substance, dealing marijuana, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of marijuana over 30 grams.
