Lawrence County officers responded to three separate domestic disputes over the weekend

LAWRENCE CO. – The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of three separate domestic disturbances over the weekend which led to arrests. 

On Saturday, at approximately 12:45 a.m., Officers Bailey Duprey and Kinsley Duncan responded to the 200 block of North Sixth Street in Mitchell after receiving a report of an unwanted male beating on multiple doors, screaming profanities, and attempting to get into the house.

The male, 26-year-old Bradley Minton, of Plainfield, had an active “No Contact Protective Orderagainst him for the residence and occupants. Minton had left the residence by the time officers arrived, but he was located a short time later by Mitchell Police officers.

Minton was arrested on charges of invasion of privacy for violating the protective order.

Assisting officers included Captain Chris Anderson and Officer Whiney Daugherty of the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office as well as Mitchell Police Officers Kenton Carter and JD England. 

On Sunday, around noon, Officers Harrison Fleetwood, Logan Smoot, and Riley Hitchcock responded to the 300 block of Shawswick School Road.

Police say 23-year-old Jalyn Scales, of Bedford, had reportedly injured a male family member. The male suffered bleeding and swelling to his face and arm. The caller reported Scales was destroying items in the residence and damaging property.

When officers arrived, Scales picked up a large knife and began to walk toward an officer with it. He did comply with orders to drop the knife.

Scales was detained.

Officers requested EMS to the scene to evaluate Scales, who police believed had ingested a large amount of illegal drugs Scales. While EMS was there, Scales began to flee while handcuffed. Officers quickly detained him, however, not before Scales bit an officer, and forcibly resisted.

Scales was taken to the hospital, where he caused a disturbance, refusing to calm down after repeatedly being told to stop Eventually, Scales calmed down and was transported to Bloomington Hospital for further medical treatment.

Scales was not arrested at the time due to the medical issues he was being treated for. He was issued a “no trespass” order not to return to the residence. 

Monday morning, Scales was released from the hospital. He showed back up at the same residence on Shawswick School Road where he again began to cause a disturbance.

Officers Smoot and Fleetwood, along with Capt. Andrew Phillips responded and arrested Scales on charges of battery, resisting arrest, battery on a police officer, criminal mischief, and disorderly conduct. Scales was once again taken to the hospital for a medical evaluation before being incarcerated at the jail. 

The third incident occurred on Sunday, at approximately 6:20 p.m., after Lawrence County dispatch received a 911 call reporting an altercation between a male and female walking along the 300 block of Old U.S. Highway 50, near Dixie Highway, and trespassing on the caller’s property.

Officer Brenten Trueblood arrived and checked a wooded area near the intersection and observed a male and female who took off running when they saw Officer Trueblood. The officer gave numerous loud verbal commands for the two to stop, but they refused. A foot pursuit began.

Officer Trueblood observed the male throwing objects as he ran. After a brief pursuit, Officer Trueblood caught the fleeing individuals.

Sgt. Michael Williams arrived on the scene to assist. 

The male, 44-year-old Eldon Sullivan, of Bedford, was wanted on an active warrant in Monroe County.

Officers located the items that Sullivan had thrown two glass smoking devices with methamphetamine residue along with a baggie of marijuana.

Sullivan was detained and incarcerated at the Lawrence County Jail on charges of resisting arrest, possession of meth, possession of drug paraphernalia, and criminal trespassing.

The female complained of medical issues and was transported to IU Bedford Hospital for treatment. She was not arrested at the time pending her treatment; however, charges are anticipated to be filed.
