The 2023 Chevy Trailblazer recalled for incorrect catalytic converter

INDIANA – GM has issued a voluntary emissions recall for certain units of the 2023 Chevy Trailblazer that may be equipped with an incorrect catalytic converter.

The recall only involves Trailblazer units powered by the turbocharged 1.2L I3 LIH gasoline engine. This recall also applies to certain units of the 2023 Buick Encore GX.

Affected units of the 2023 Chevy Trailblazer may have had an incorrect catalytic converter part installed during production. If this is the case, the catalytic converter will not properly process exhaust gases and therefore will fail to meet all emission system requirements.

GM has not indicated any hazards potentially caused by the incorrect catalytic converter. However, a 2023 Chevy Trailblazer unable to meet emission system requirements might fail an emissions inspection and maintenance test or prevent a service technician from confirming that the appropriate data is found in the ECM. Either of these situations could potentially cause inconvenience to the owner of the affected vehicle.

GM has told its dealers to inspect the involved 2023 Chevy Trailblazer units. The inspection may enable the dealer to verify the correct catalytic converter was equipped during production. If the inspection reveals an incorrect catalytic converter fitted to the Trailblazer, the dealer is instructed to remove the incorrect converter and replace it with the correct part.

With only a small number of catalytic converters incorrectly installed, GM suggests dealers should verify the presence of an incorrect catalytic converter prior to ordering a replacement part.

GM placed a stop delivery on affected 2023 Chevy Trailblazer units from February 16, 2023, onward. Involved vehicles currently in inventory should not be delivered to the customer, dealer traded, or used in demonstrations until the catalytic converter is inspected and, if necessary, replaced. The stop delivery is released following servicing.

The recall affects 1,500 vehicles, though GM estimates only 32 individual Chevy Trailblazer and Buick Encore GX units in total are actually equipped with incorrect catalytic converters.
