Judge Nathan Nikirk reads to K-2 students at Parkview Elementary School in honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday

BEDFORD – In honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday, Circuit Court Judge Nathan Nikirk was invited to read to K-2 students at Parkview Elementary School for Read Across America Day.

Read Across America Day celebrates the books that inspire our children to dream big, expand the limits of their understanding, and explore diverse perspectives and cultures through the eyes of others. Judge Nikirk read “The Cat In The Hat” to students.

Each year, National Read Across America Day is celebrated on March 2nd, the birthday of Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss. The annual event is part of Read Across America, an initiative on reading created by the National Education Association in 1998.

Judge Nikirk’s wife Amy joined in the fun to administer the Reader’s Oath to the students – “I promise to read, every day and every night. I know it’s the key to growing up right.”

Judge Nikirk would like to thank Principal Dr. Theresa Lemons, Assistant Principal Melissa Epping, and all of the wonderful teachers at Parkview for inviting him to read to the students.

Make reading fun by allowing your students to do it in many different ways. Make time for students to read alone, read with a friend, read with someone they’ve never read with before, listen to the teacher read aloud, read with a younger or older buddy, and even read with a favorite stuffed animal.

He also wanted to thank the wonderful attentive students for the awesome hat and for taking the oath.
