Man and woman arrested after fleeing police in a stolen vehicle

ST. JOSEPH CO. – A late-morning chase on Friday, Feb. 17, resulted in the arrest of a man and woman and the recovery of a stolen vehicle.

At approximately 10:50 a.m. troopers with the Indiana State Police Bremen Post All Crimes Policing Team attempted to stop a tan Lincoln SUV towing a Ford pickup truck on a trailer on State Road 933 in Roseland, IN.

The troopers were attempting the traffic stop because the Lincoln did not stop for a red light at the intersection of State Road 933 and Pendle Road and because a ramp for the trailer was dragging on the pavement.

When the trooper turned on his red and blue emergency lights, the driver of the Lincoln did not stop and sped southbound on State Road 933 before turning westbound on Angela Boulevard.

As the Lincoln navigated the roundabout at Angela Boulevard and Riverside Drive, the trailer went up on the curb, causing the Ford pickup to separate from the trailer. The Ford rolled down an embankment toward the river as the Lincoln continued westbound.

Troopers lost sight of the fleeing Lincoln near the intersection of Berkley Place and Oakwood Boulevard. A short time later, officers with the South Bend Police Department radioed that they located the Lincoln and trailer near Hollywood Place and Lagoon Court. The male driver, identified as Kyle Blair, 26 of South Bend, IN, and the female passenger, identified as Makayla Gann, 26 of Mishawaka, IN, were both located a short time later after both fled in different directions on foot.

Troopers were able to locate two handguns that were thrown from the Lincoln near the area where the Ford pickup had become dislodged from the trailer. Further investigation also revealed that the Lincoln SUV was reported stolen out of Elkhart, IN.

Blair was found to have an active arrest warrant and was wanted on a parole violation. He was also arrested for resisting law enforcement, felon in possession of a handgun, and possession of stolen property.

Gann was arrested for resisting law enforcement, possession of stolen property, and possession of methamphetamine.

Blair and Gann were taken to the St. Joseph County Jail.

The South Bend Police Department and St. Joseph County Police Department assisted the Indiana State Police in locating Blair and Gann as they fled.
