After 40 years as a teacher and coach, Mitchell High School Girls Basketball Head Coach Tim Haworth will be resigning from his position with the team and ultimately retiring.

Haworth will also be retiring from his role as an educator at Mitchell High School following the end of the school year.

Haworth coached both varsity boys and girls basketball at Mitchell for a total of 10 seasons, seven with the boys and three with the girls.

Of his 40 year career, he spent 26 years as a head boys basketball coach at different schools in Indiana and Illinois; Mitchell High School, Gorham High School in Gorham, IL, Shawnee High School in Wolf Lake, IL, Trico High School in Campbell Hill, IL and Southridge High School in Huntingburg.

Haworth also spent time as an assistant varsity boys coach at West Washington High School in Campbellsburg.

“After 40 years teaching and coaching, I thought this would be a good time to step out while my health was relatively good,” Haworth said. “I’m looking forward to spending time with my family and grandkids.”

Under Haworth’s direction from 2004-2011, the Bluejackets had a total record of 64-84, with their most successful season being the 08-09 year, where they finished with a record of 13-8. The team won the Patoka Lake Athletic Conference championship in 2009, which broke a 25-year run without taking home the crown. The team also won the 2008 Paoli Tip Off Tournament.

As head coach for the Lady Jackets from 2021-2023, he led the team to a total record of 29-30. The 2021 (11-4) and 2022 (13-8) seasons were some of the team’s best in recent years, as they took home the PLAC championship in 2022, going undefeated in conference play. The team also won the North Daviess Girls Basketball Invitational tournament in both 2021 and 2022.
