Traffic stop results in the arrest of a serious violent felon in possession of a firearm

DELAWARE CO. – On Thursday, February 2, Troopers from the Indiana State Police Post discovered a serious violent felon in possession of a firearm,  approximately 12 grams of suspected cocaine, 12 grams of marijuana, and US currency on a traffic stop.

At approximately 10:30 p.m., Trooper Jacob Ridgway patrolled the Muncie area near the 1900 block of East Willard Street.  During his patrol, Trooper Ridgway stopped a black 2005 Jeep Cherokee for failing to signal multiple times.  The vehicle stopped in a nearby residence’s driveway.  While speaking to the driver, Trooper Ridgway immediately detected an odor of marijuana emitting from the car.  The driver identified himself as Jeffery L. Allen, 46, of Muncie, Indiana.

Trooper Ridgway requested assistance from other officers.  Troopers Nick Albrecht, Hanna McClure, and Lee Tinch arrived to assist.  After establishing probable cause,  Allen was asked to step out of the vehicle and Trooper Ridgway conducted a search of the vehicle.  During the search, Trooper Ridgway located a rock-like substance consistent with crack cocaine.  Ridgway also located a loaded 9mm handgun and marijuana. Further investigation into Allen revealed that he had a prior conviction for armed robbery and possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.

Allen was arrested and transported to the Delaware County Jail on preliminary charges of dealing and possession of cocaine, possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, dealing and possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
