A woman was arrested after attempting to smuggle drugs into the jail to an inmate

BEDFORD – On Thursday, Jan. 27, Lawrence County Jail officers discovered that a visitor had attempted to drop off an article of clothing for an inmate, following established procedures. However, the item appeared to have been tampered with before being dropped off.

Jail Commander Andrew Lynn, along with Captain Andrew Phillips and Sheriff Greg Day, launched an investigation.

It was discovered that the article of clothing contained methamphetamine, suboxone, and tobacco, all sewn into the material.

During the course of the investigation, officers established probable cause for the arrest of 31-year-old Kayla McIntosh, of Mitchell.

Capt. Phillips and Sheriff Day located McIntosh in a camper she was living in on Russell Road in Mitchell. She was taken into custody without incident. In addition, she gave officers consent to search the camper. During the search, officers found meth, suboxone, and drug paraphernalia.

McIntosh was arrested and incarcerated in the Lawrence County Jail on felony charges of conspiracy to commit trafficking with an inmate, dealing meth, dealing a narcotic drug, two counts of possession of meth, two counts of possession of a narcotic drug, and a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

The investigation continues with more arrests anticipated, including the involved inmates who conspired to have the illegal drugs delivered.

Sheriff Day praised the work of the jail staff in detecting and stopping illegal drugs from entering the facility.
